Design and Build

The laptop is easy to carry for daily commuting at 1.8 kg and 20 mm thickness. The chassis is plastic: the keyboard deck and bottom panel feel reasonably solid, while the display lid is more flexible under pressure. The hinge is firm, so opening the lid with one hand can be difficult. The gray matte finish is practical and does not collect fingerprints easily.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The 15.6-inch IPS panel offers Full HD resolution and a matte surface, which helps in bright environments. According to the source review, brightness around 250 cd/m2 and viewing angles are good for office work and media use. The SonicMaster speaker pair is acceptable for calls, films, and casual music, though not very loud. The 0.3 MP webcam is basic and image quality drops in low light.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The island-style keyboard uses 1.4 mm key travel and includes a numpad, making it suitable for spreadsheets and text work. This configuration does not include keyboard backlighting or a fingerprint reader. The touchpad is large and supports multitouch gestures, with a textured surface that feels less smooth than glass but remains usable in daily tasks.

Performance

The Core i5-1035G1 and 8 GB RAM setup is appropriate for web browsing, office software, document work, and other common productivity tasks. The GeForce MX130 is an entry-level discrete GPU, so expectations for modern gaming should stay modest. The source notes that older titles can run at playable frame rates with moderate settings.

Ports and Battery

Connectivity is practical for basic office setups: USB Type-C, USB 3.2, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, microSD, and an audio combo jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0. The 37 Wh battery delivered close to seven hours in light document-focused work in the source test, which is a typical result for this class.

Verdict

ASUS Laptop 15 X515JF is a practical mainstream notebook for students and office users who need a matte IPS display, good everyday responsiveness, and useful port selection in a portable body. The main compromise is feature trimming in this variant: no keyboard backlight, no fingerprint reader, and only basic webcam quality.
