Overview

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop focused on high frame rate play at Full HD resolution. In this tested configuration, it combines an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics and 16 GB of memory. The device is built in a sturdy aluminum-and-plastic chassis, includes upgrade headroom, and uses a large 90 Wh battery.

For buyers, the key strength is gaming performance with a fast 144 Hz panel. The main compromises are the missing webcam, moderate screen brightness, and higher surface temperatures during heavy load.

Design and Build

The chassis uses aluminum and plastic and feels solid in daily handling, with no reported flex or creaking. At 2.3 kg, it is relatively manageable for a gaming notebook, though the rear section adds to the overall footprint. Matte surfaces and RGB light strips give it a clear gaming style, while the hinge design keeps the display stable and allows one-hand opening.

Display and Audio

The laptop has a 15.6-inch Full HD matte IPS panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync support. Reported brightness is up to 300 nits, which is acceptable indoors but less comfortable in strong sunlight. The review reports strong contrast (about 1300:1), 90% sRGB coverage, and a 9.2 ms response time, supporting smooth gameplay.

Audio comes from two Dolby Atmos speakers. Output is described as loud enough for everyday use, with decent mids and highs, while bass remains limited.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The island-style keyboard omits a numpad and uses per-key RGB backlighting. Key size and spacing are practical for gaming and long sessions, and five extra multimedia keys are available above the keyboard. The touchpad has a smooth glass surface, supports standard multitouch gestures, and is usable without an external mouse for routine tasks.

Performance, Gaming, and Thermals

With Ryzen 7 5800H and GeForce RTX 3070 graphics, this configuration targets modern AAA gaming at high settings in 1080p. The source review reports strong frame rates in demanding titles and describes the system as suitable for current games at very high quality presets. Storage is a 1 TB SSD, and the platform includes memory upgrade potential up to 32 GB.

Under load, hot spots can reach around 45-50 degrees C on parts of the chassis, while fans produce a steady audible noise. For light tasks, the system remains cooler and more comfortable.

Ports, Connectivity, and Battery

Physical I/O covers gaming and desk use well: three USB 3.2 ports, one USB Type-C, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, and a combo audio jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

The 90 Wh battery supports fast charging (50% in around 30 minutes). In the source test conditions, web browsing at 150 nits lasted about 7.5 hours, while gaming reduced runtime to around 1.5 hours. Charging through USB Type-C is also supported.

Verdict

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513 is a practical choice for users who want strong Full HD gaming performance, a fast 144 Hz display, and useful upgrade flexibility. It is especially attractive for players who prioritize frame rate and GPU power over multimedia extras. Buyers should still account for three clear compromises: no built-in webcam, limited outdoor screen brightness, and noticeable heat and fan activity during heavy gaming.
