Dell Vostro 3581 Review: A Practical 15.6-inch Laptop for Small Business
Editor note: This English review is an original adaptation based on source material from Notebook-Center.ru.
Overview
The Dell Vostro 3581 is aimed at small business users who need a straightforward 15.6-inch laptop for office work, web browsing, and light everyday multitasking. This configuration uses an Intel Core i3-7020U processor, 4 GB of DDR4 memory, a 1 TB hard drive, and both integrated and entry-level discrete graphics. It also includes business-friendly extras such as Windows 10 Professional and a fingerprint scanner built into the power button.
In practical use, the main appeal is balance. The laptop offers a Full HD matte screen, a useful set of ports, and a keyboard designed for frequent typing. The main compromise is that some parts of the hardware are clearly entry level, especially the TN display panel and the mechanical hard drive.

Design and Build
Dell keeps the design simple and conservative, which fits the Vostro business line well. The black chassis uses textured surfaces that help reduce visible fingerprints, and the plastic body is described as reasonably rigid for daily use. At 2.28 kg, it is not especially light, but it is still manageable for occasional travel between office, home, and meetings.
The layout is practical rather than modern-looking. The display bezels are not slim, but the keyboard deck has enough space for comfortable work, and the camera sits in its usual position above the screen.
Display and Multimedia
One of the better points in this configuration is the 15.6-inch Full HD display. The 1920x1080 resolution gives enough workspace for documents, presentations, and general office tasks. The matte finish also helps by reducing reflections in normal indoor use.
At the same time, the panel uses TN technology, so viewing angles are limited. Brightness is described as moderate, which should be acceptable in an office or other indoor environment, but it is not a screen that stands out for image quality. Audio from the stereo speakers is clear enough for background listening, and Waves MaxxAudio Pro adds some adjustment options. The 1 MP webcam is suitable for video calls, although image quality drops in poor lighting.
Keyboard and Security
The full-size island-style keyboard includes a numeric keypad, which is useful for spreadsheets and routine data entry. The source review describes the keys as comfortable and easy to adapt to, with clear feedback during typing. Dell also mentions a spill-resistant surface, which is a practical extra in an office setting.
The touchpad is compact but smooth and responsive enough for everyday navigation and multi-touch gestures. Security is another useful point here, with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button for quick sign-in and added data protection.
Performance
This Vostro 3581 is built for basic business workloads, not heavy creative work or gaming. The Intel Core i3-7020U handles office applications, browsing, light multimedia, and simple image editing at an amateur level. The 4 GB of RAM is enough for several everyday programs, but it leaves limited headroom for more demanding multitasking.
Graphics duties are shared between Intel HD Graphics 620 and the AMD Radeon 520. The discrete GPU adds some extra capability for light graphics work and older or less demanding games, but gaming is clearly not the focus of this laptop. Storage capacity is generous thanks to the 1 TB hard drive, although users should expect hard-drive-class responsiveness rather than SSD-level speed.
Ports and Battery
Connectivity is a strong point for this model. Dell includes two USB 3.1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI, VGA, RJ-45 Ethernet, a microSD card reader, a combined audio jack, and even a DVD drive. That mix is especially useful for office users who still work with older projectors, wired networks, or physical media.
Wireless support covers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1. The 4400 mAh battery delivered around four hours in balanced mode with screen brightness reduced by roughly one third in the source review. That is enough for short trips or meetings, but it is not a laptop built for all-day unplugged work.
Verdict
The Dell Vostro 3581 is a sensible choice for buyers who want an affordable business notebook with a comfortable keyboard, Full HD resolution, useful security features, and a wide port selection. Its strengths are practicality and everyday usability, not speed or premium materials.
The trade-offs are clear as well: the TN display has narrow viewing angles, the 4 GB memory configuration is modest, and the 1 TB hard drive favors capacity over speed. For office tasks, document work, and routine business use, however, this configuration remains a functional and well-focused machine.
