Editor note: This is an original English adaptation by Notebook Center, based on the source review from Notebook-Center.ru.

Overview

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is a 12.4-inch notebook built around mobility and basic daily work. The tested configuration includes an Intel Core i5-1035G1, 8 GB of LPDDR4x memory, and a 256 GB SSD. In practice, the device targets web browsing, documents, spreadsheets, and video streaming rather than demanding creative or gaming tasks.

Design and Build

The chassis combines materials: an anodized aluminum lid and a plastic lower section. The review notes a clean gray-silver look, mostly matte panels, and generally good assembly quality. At about 1.1 kg with compact dimensions, this model is easy to carry for commuting or travel.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The 12.4-inch IPS touchscreen has a 1536x1024 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is practical for documents and web pages. Brightness is listed at up to 350 nits, acceptable indoors but less comfortable outdoors because of the glossy surface. Stereo speakers support Dolby Audio, while the 720p webcam is serviceable for periodic video calls.

Keyboard and Input

Typing comfort is one of the stronger points for this size class. The keyboard has large keys and approximately 1.3 mm key travel, and frequent keys such as Enter and Shift are easy to hit. The main compromise is the lack of backlight, which affects night use.

Performance and Connectivity

With Intel Core i5-1035G1 and integrated UHD Graphics G1, performance is tuned for everyday productivity, not heavy graphics workloads. Memory is soldered, which limits future upgrades. Physical connectivity is minimal: USB 3.1, USB Type-C, a headphone jack, and Surface Connect charging. Wireless support includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

Battery, Heat, and Noise

The battery is rated at 39 Wh. Reported runtime is about 8 hours in web browsing, up to roughly 1.5 days in idle conditions, and around 1 to 1.5 hours under heavy load. The laptop can become noticeably warm during stress, and fan noise can rise to a clearly audible level in intensive scenarios.

Verdict

Surface Laptop Go is a practical choice for users who prioritize portability, everyday office/web workloads, and a compact premium-style design. The key trade-offs are limited port selection, non-upgradable memory, no keyboard backlight, and modest integrated graphics performance.
